APOC 19-2 a ‘transformational experience’ for Fellows

APOC 19-2 Fellows hold discussions in Maluhia Hall. A total of 166 U.S. and international Fellows participated in the Asia-Pacific Orientation Course (APOC) 19-2 at the Daniel K Inouye Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies, Honolulu. The five-day course concluded on July 19. APOC is designed to build resilient capacity, shared understanding, and networked relationships among civilian and military practitioners and institutions to advance a Free and Open Indo-Pacific. When CSRT 18-1 alumna Yetunde Olobayo walked out the doors of DKI APCSS Aug. 8, 2018 after her course graduation, she probably thought it would be for the last time. Thirty-one senior leaders from 25 locations completed the Transnational Security Cooperation course (TSC) 19-1 from May 19-24 at the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS). The course manager was Dr. Scott Hauger and the course coordinator was Maj. Alex Botardo. Dr. Benjamin Ryan, DKI APCSS, and Dr. Joseph Green, Pacific Disaster Center (PDC), proposed a systematic methodology to rank needs of people with life threatening conditions and chronic diseases before, during and after a disaster at the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WADEM) Congress in Brisbane, Australia, on May 8, 2019. Dr. Ryan, DKI APCSS Dr. Ryan discussed how disasters can damage the essential social protections and public health infrastructure required for vulnerable populations.
