Success of bilateral workshop furthers U.S.-Vietnam relationship

Vietnam Fellow Tran Phuoc Anh discusses formation of a strategic vision for his nation with APCSS professor U.S. Navy Capt. Benjamin Clancy and intern Cody Fultz. Continuing a steady trend of increasing U.S.-Vietnam cooperation, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies teamed up for a joint workshop promoting international partnership building. Lao PDR, APCSS join hands to prep nation for ASEAN leadership

The Lao People's Democratic Republic will assume the Chairmanship of the ASEAN in 2016. To assist in preparations for this regional leadership role, the ASEAN Department in Lao PDR’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs – supported by the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies – hosted a seminar April 7 to 8 in Vientiane. The chairmanship will involve leadership of various ASEAN organizations and events to include nearly a thousand meetings and summits. Fiji – APCSS partner to enhance security sector development

Dr. Rouben Azizian, the workshop academic lead, provides an overview to workshop participants. About 40 people from 20 different ministries took part in this facilitated review of Fiji's security sector environment. The workshop brought together 40 mid-senior grade officials from 20 Fiji Ministries and government entities. These included members of the national Security Council; defense and interior agencies; and other security-related agencies related to economic, environmental, and health functions. APCSS reach grows with graduation of 151 Fellows in APOC 15-1

The largest class in its 20-year history graduated today from the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies. One hundred fifty-one Fellows, including 17 international Fellows, completed the Asia-Pacific Orientation Course held here Jan. 26-30. For two decades, the Center has employed APOC, five other courses and multiple workshops to educate more than 9,000 international security practitioners on socio-economic and politico-military factors impacting global stability and development. The latest APOC’s class size reflects the Center’s growing influence in the global security studies arena. In a news conference-like setting this week, six panels of senior multi-agency representatives briefed planned responses to a devastating Ebola outbreak and multiple damaging cyber attacks within Asia-Pacific nations.
