APOC 13-3 Graduates

One hundred American and international Fellows graduated from the Asia-Pacific Orientation Course (APOC), held November 4-8, at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies.  This was the third edition of this course given within the year, signifying its’ popularity amongst various on-island major component commands, civilian counterpart agencies and regional partnered nations including Australia, Brunei, Canada, Singapore and Republic of Korea.   APOC  provides an overview of the Asia-Pacific region, specifically presenting the socio-economic, political, military, cultural influences, and transnational trends and dynamics shape its security environment, while also examining the increased role and impact of U.S. Rebalance efforts to the area.  The [...]

APCSS First Brown Bag Lunch – Webinar

On November 6, APCSS hosted its first brown bag lunch seminar that was simultaneously live-streamed as a webinar.  Entitled, “Security Implications of Recent North Korean Behavior,” the hour long presentation and discussion was provided by APCSS Director, retired Lt. APCSS hosts joint workshop with the NZDF CSC

Fellows and faculty from the New Zealand Defense Force (NZDF) Command and Staff College (CSC) attended a joint workshop hosted at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS) from November 4-7. ASC 13-2 Course rescheduled

Due to the continued U.S. Government shutdown and furlough of employees, the Advanced Security Cooperation (ASC) Course 13-2 scheduled to commence on 10 October 2013 has been deferred until 9 January – 13 February 2014.  Accordingly, no Fellows registered for ASC 13-2 should commence travel at this time.  We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.  Additional information has been passed to respective U.S. Embassies related to this adjustment and attempts to contact registered participants directly is ongoing.  Please continue to check this website for the latest updates regarding return to duty or course scheduling.   -End-

APCSS professor publishes a paper on the U.S. role in Afghanistan

"Global Governance: Rethinking the US Role in Afghanistan Post 2014" is a paper by APCSS' Dr. Saira Yamin published in the latest Journal for South Asian Development. ABSTRACT: The research evaluates the progress towards security and stabilization in Afghanistan as the country transitions towards a complete US–NATO drawdown in December 2014. CCM 13-1 concludes with 105 new alumni

Military and civilian government Fellows from 35 countries and territories including a participant from the United Nations, graduated September 17 from the “Comprehensive Crisis Management Course” at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies. Lauren Kahea Moriarty steps down as APCSS Dean of Academics

During a ceremony in her honor, retired U.S. Ambassador Lauren Kahea Moriarty stepped down today as Dean of Academics at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies. “The Center is well-positioned to support the U.S. strategic re-balance to the Asia-Pacific,” said Moriarty of the executive education programs that APCSS conducts in Honolulu and in the region. “Dean Moriarty has made great contributions to APCSS and our mission—contributions which have had an impact throughout the Asia-Pacific region,” said APCSS Director Lt. Transnational Security Cooperation course concludes with 26 new alumni

Twenty-six senior executives from 25 locations completed the Transnational Security Cooperation (TSC) course June 21 at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in Honolulu.  They included military and civilian leaders from Afghanistan,  Bangladesh, Cambodia, Canada, China, France, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Maldives, Mexico, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua-New Guinea, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Republic of  Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam.
