On April 5, the Center announced the recipients of the Excellence in Federal Government Awards sponsored by the Honolulu Pacific Federal Executive Board. The Center’s faculty and staff received awards in four categories: Federal Leader/Supervisor/Manager of the Year, Mentor of the Year, Federal Employee of the Year (Professional, Administrative & Technical), Federal Employee of the Year (Clerical & Assistant), and Team Award. International Fellows from the U.S. Army War College Visit the Center

On April 1, 2022, DKI APCSS hosted 40 international officers from the U.S Army War College’s International Fellows Program. Ranging from lieutenant colonel to brigadier general, the Fellows were hand-selected from the Chief of Staff of the Army to participate in a 10-month, in-resident course at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. For the last seven months, the Fellows have studied the role of land power, as part of a unified, joint or combined force, in support of the U.S. national military strategy. Their visit to Hawaii provided an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the various Indo-Pacific organizations who are available to partner with their militaries and countries.  In addition to DKI APCSS, the Fellows visited the Indo-Pacific Command, the U.S. Army Pacific Command, and the Center for Excellence in Disaster Management.

Center Rolls Out First Senior Fellow Workshop 21-1

The Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS) rolled out a new virtual workshop called the Senior Fellow Workshop (SFW) 21-1, and was held from June 22-24. The online workshop – using a “3x3” format  (three hours for three days) – convened 28 senior security practitioners representing 26 countries from the Indo-Pacific region and four international organizations including the ASEAN Secretariat, Interpol, the American Red Cross and the Bali Process. Comprehensive Maritime Security Cooperation Module

The Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies completed the virtual Comprehensive Maritime Security Cooperation (CMSC) 21-1 module held June 14-17, 2021. For 80 Fellows from 20 countries, this module was an opportunity to refresh regional awareness of the importance of maritime security. The event focused on maritime security in Southeast Asia, and looked at two challenges in the region. The Royal Thai Armed Forces’ Strategic Studies Center of the National Defence Studies Institute hosted their second Senior Security Studies Program, May 17-21, 2021, in Bangkok.  The intensive one-week program for senior Thai security sector leaders emphasized key geopolitical and security trends in the region as well as capacities to manage these for both leaders and institutions.  Center leadership and faculty members from The Daniel K. Five employees and one departmental team of the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies were honored May 20 by Honolulu Federal Executive Board during their 65th Annual Excellence in Federal Government awards. Because of the COVID-19 restrictions, the FEB ceremony was held virtually.
