The September issue of Pacific Affairs  includes an article co-authored by APCSS professor Shyam Tekwani. “Shutting Down the Mobile Phone and the Downfall of Nepalese Society, Economy and Politics” explores how an 88-day shutdown in mobile phone service in Nepal as part of an effort to curb violence contributed to increased public discontent. Thailand outreach workshop focuses on security sector development

An Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS) outreach team conducted a workshop entitled “Interagency Collaboration to Counter Violent Extremism” in Hua Hin, Thailand  July 9-13. The purpose of the workshop was to assist the Thailand government in accessing and further developing its’ security sector in countering violent extremism (CVE).  A key objective of the workshop was to enable participants to develop specific recommendations for increased efficiency and effectiveness of the Thai Interagency or "whole of government" process.  Additionally, the workshop was intended to help advance the important and long standing U.S. treaty relationship with Thailand. Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies Dr. James R. Campbell recently had a book chapter entitled  "Human Health Threats and Implications for Regional Security in Southeast Asia" (chapter 9), in the book "Human Security: Securing East Asia's Future" (B.T.C. Guan, editor), Springer 2012. Maritime security challenges to be addressed at conference

In cooperation with Maritime Forces Pacific of the Royal Canadian Navy, Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS) will participate in a conference entitled "Maritime Security Challenges 2012" will be held Oct. 1-3 in Victoria, B.C. Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies associate professor Dr. Jeffrey Hornung and professor Dr. Mohan Malik have recently had articles published. Malik's article entitled "China and India Today: Diplomats Jostle, Militaries Prepare" was published Aug. 1 in the World Affairs Journal. Hornung's article entitled "Thinking through Japan-ROK security relations" was published Aug. 1 in The Japan Times.
