Faculty and senior leadership from the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies traveled to Thailand in July to participate in the Senior Security Studies Program hosted by the Royal Thai Armed Forces’ Strategic Studies Center of the National Defence Studies Institute. The intensive one-week course for senior Thai security sector leaders, held in Bangsaen, Chonburi, emphasized the impact of change in the region as well as the capacity to manage change for both leaders and institutions. On Monday morning (July 25, 2022), Myanmar’s military junta released the news that they executed four political prisoners who were leaders in the movement for democracy. Social media went into over-drive expressing outrage, sorrow, and defiance against the military junta. Domestically and internationally, communities swiftly condemned the unjust execution of the democracy movement leaders.

The Daniel K. Inouye Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies completed its second iteration of the Comprehensive Security Cooperation (CSC) course, graduating 82 Fellows from 29 countries. The 5-week, intensive program, took place from May 25- June 20. Through plenary lectures and small-group seminars, the Fellows examined the geostrategic landscape of the Indo-Pacific region. While they critically assessed the region’s most pressing security challenges, they also discussed ways to build capacity and enhance cooperation with other nations.
